Power, Margaret Baskerville and Charles Douglas Richardson have all drawn inspirations from living in the area.

Bayside offers cultural programs that encourage appreciation for arts and culture within the
community, places to connect and activities that stimulate the imagination.

ARTrium Exhibition Space & Roaming Studios

Bayside has been providing local artists and community arts organisations with the opportunity to exhibit at ARTrium Exhibition Space, in the foyer of the Bayside Corporate Centre, for over ten years.

ARTrium Exhibition Space provides an opportunity for local artists to mount a professional exhibition with guidance and assistance. Through the Roaming Studios program the artists then have the option to be able to exhibit in the Bayside libraries. Exhibitions are accompanied by a program of talks and workshops.

Resonance Music Series

The Resonance Music Series features an extensive program of local and international artists
performing early, classical and contemporary music at some of Bayside’s finest heritage buildings.

From the timeless works of Mozart and Vivaldi to the more recent works of Grainger and Gershwin, Bayside remains a hub for early, classical and contemporary music, along with the art of historical dance and gesture. Performances are usually one hour and can often be attended without booking.

Bayside Artist in Residence program: Billilla Mansion Studios

The Bayside Artist in Residence program is based at Billilla Historic Mansion (26 Halifax Street, Brighton), a magnificent heritage building and stately public garden

Non-residential studios are provided to artists (local and non-local) to create new work in a variety of media over a 12-month period.

Each year an open day is hosted by Council, providing the community with an opportunity to observe the artist’s work in progress, connect with their practice and enjoy a day in the gardens of Billilla with light refreshments.

The Design Market

Bayside Design Market is held twice a year, at Billilla Mansion Gardens in April and at Brighton Town Hall in November. The market showcases the best of Victorian and local design, and features a range of stallholders including jewellery, homewares, textiles and accessories.

The April market is held in conjunction with the Artist in Residence Open Day, a wonderful celebration of art, craft and design in Bayside.
